Atlus shared new information on Persona 5 The Royal following day 1 of the Persona Super Live 2019 concert, and there’s a lot of info including a new trailer, details on the new female character, and a new previously untold “third semester.” Famitsu provides us with a first look.
First, here’s a look at a new trailer:
Below are the first details on the game from Atlus:
Kasumi Yoshizawa (CV: Sora Amamiya)
A pretty girl who transfers to Shujin Academy in the same year as the protagonist in spring. She’s been a top-class rhythmic gymnast since middle school who continues to aim for excellent results, and even Shujin Academy has high expectations of her future.
She appears to yearn for the protagonist but appears to reject the Phantom Thieves. Will she be an enemy or an ally?
Takuto Maruki (CV: Satoshi Hino)
A newly appointed part-time school counselor who arrives to take care of the students, following the events that occurred with a certain teacher in Shujin Academy in April.
Previously Untold Third Semester
In Persona 5 The Royal we’ll get to see some untold story that wasn’t told in the original Persona, with the addition of life during the previously untold “third semester,” which will be a major part. While there hasn’t been much information shared on this, it’ll have more new characters that have yet to be revealed, as well as a first-visit to the shrine event on January 1 for Hatsumode.
In the above screenshot we see a “handsome man” who refers to himself as “wagahai,” similar to a certain cat…
Student & Thief Life Reborn!
A popular spot that represents Tokyo has been added with the new “Kichijoji” area. The Velvet Room twins will also get to come outside here to add a little more spice to the student life parts of the game. The above screenshot shows a stroll in Kichijoji. There seems to be more going on in the shopping arcade.
Here’s Justine and Caroline hanging out.
New date spots have been added. Here we see the protagonist going on a date at the aquarium with Kasumi, who wants to go see the dolphin show.
The peaceful everyday life isn’t the only part that evolved, as the thief life has also been upgraded with powerful new enemies and stage setups with changes to the dungeons. It seems like the thief life will be harder than ever. There are powerful new enemies called “Kyoma” that appears to be giving Ryuji a tough time. You’ll be needing all the help you can get to take these monsters out.
Here we see various commands being shouted out in jail, where it’s normally more calm. It has options for creating a new Persona, training, and more.
There appears to be numerous additional elements for the Palaces and Mementos as well.
Lastly, here’s a new teaser trailer for the West:
Persona 5 The Royal releases in Japan on October 31, 2019 for PlayStation 4. The game releases in the West in 2020.
