Ahead of the game’s July 2020 launch, Nintendo was hyping up a Paper Mario: The Origami King Metroid moment. It even almost seemed like the company was teasing something. But now, it turns out that papier-mâché moment is one of two Easter eggs calling back to other Nintendo series. The other references Donkey Kong.

Now that review copies are in the wild and various embargoes have lifted, details have been coming in about various secrets. The Paper Mario: The Origami King Metroid and Donkey Kong segments are among them. In the original clip Nintendo shared, we could see both a Donkey Kong and Goomba head in the same room where Mario was trying on Samus’ helmet. It turns out each mask can be worn.

Here’s the GameXplain video looking at the segment. The Donkey Kong head has some fun music. All of Olivia and Bobby Bob-Omb’s commentary is also covered.

This isn’t the only lighthearted moment that’s been shared regarding the game recently. Nintendo capitalized on the “can you pet the dog” trend in games by confirming Chain Chomps can be petted in Paper Mario: The Origami King. Though, on a more serious note, the company also conducted a Nintendo Treehouse Live that looked at a boss fight.

Paper Mario: The Origami King will come to the Nintendo Switch on July 17, 2020.
