Bandai Namco will shut down its service for Pac-Man Geo on October 28, 2021. It will remove the mobile game from app stores in not only Japan, but also all regions worldwide. [Thanks, 4Gamer.]
Originally announced at GDC 2019, Bandai Namco released Pac-Man Geo on mobile devices worldwide in September 2020. The game launched with a feature that lets players generate Pac-Man playfields from any real-world map. It determines traversable lanes by referencing roads recorded in Google Maps.
In late March 2021, Bandai Namco released a Ver.2.0 update for the app. The main highlight was the World Tour mode, where people can play on specific maps while collecting information on the featured landmarks, such as Santa Monica and Brazil’s soccer stadium.
The update also brought in a couple of skills that help players in tackling complex mazes. The Vacuum skill lets Pac-Man pull in many dots at once, while the Repel skill literally pushes the enemy ghosts far away.
Despite all of these updates, Pac-Man Geo did not generate enough buzz to sustain its longevity. The mobile game will have lasted for a bit over a year by the time Bandai Namco ends service in October 2021.
Pac-Man Geo is available worldwide on Android and iOS mobile devices until October 28, 2021.
