The original Mario Bros. (sans the “Super”) is being released for Japan’s Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console next week. The game will be available on May 8th for 500 yen.

Unlike later Mario games, Mario Bros. doesn’t take place in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario and Luigi are plumbers investigating the sewers of New York, and the goal is to defeat all the enemies in every stage, each one consisting of a single screen with four pipes and a series of blocks.
