One Piece Live-Action Actors Discuss Show in New Video

Netflix shared a new One Piece live-action teaser showing the actors discussing the show. It’s a brief behind-the-scenes look at the episodes with Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji’s actors, as well as Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, the showrunners and executive producers, offering their thoughts. Stunt Coordinator Franz Spilhaus also discussed the stunts, and brought up how Zoro actor Mackenyu already had experience with katanas.

The Netflix video begins with the One Piece live-action actors Inaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, and Jacob Romero, who play Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Usopp, discussing the story and series. Then, Owens and Taz “Sanji” Skylar talked about how good Eiichiro Oda’s original manga is. Maeda then explained how Godoy fit so well for the role, and Godoy himself discussed taking the role.

There’s no commentary from any of the original Japanese One Piece voice actors, who will also lend their voices to the Japanese dub of the show. When people watch worldwide, they can choose to hear the new actors’ voices or switch to the dub to hear Mayumi Tanaka, Akemi Okamura, Hiroaki Hirata, Kappei Yamaguchi, and Kazuya Nakai voice Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Usopp, and Zoro.

The One Piece live-action show will launch on Netflix on August 31, 2023. The anime is streaming on places like Crunchyroll and Netflix, and Viz Media is handling the manga outside Japan.
