The official Twitter account for upcoming free-to-play mobile game Octopath Traveler: Conquerors of the Continent has been somewhat active lately, collecting questions from people regarding what’s new and more compared to the original Octopath Traveler. Over the past two weeks, several answers were given, and two new weapon types with the book and fan were also revealed.

Here are the highlights:

Will the main characters from the Switch game appear? Do you go to the towns in the previous game?

A: “This game takes place on the same continent of Orsterra, a few years before the previous game. Regarding the contents of the story, we can’t really say much as we’d rather let players experience it themselves, but all 8 regions from the Switch game appear, and while not all of them, some of the towns are returning in this game. Within them, there are some that have areas only accessible in this game… (We will upload a video of Sunshade later.)

Of course, as this is a completely original story, you don’t need to have played the Switch game beforehand.”

Is it okay to think of this as a completely singleplayer game?

A: “Conquerors of the Continent is being developed as a singleplayer RPG. There are no competitive elements against other players, and nor are there plans to add such things. Furthermore, in order so that you can play this game anytime, we will do our utmost to avoid adding playable content that is limited-time only.

*As for content that isn’t competitive, like content that you can slowly enjoy like a traveler in the world of Octopath Traveler, we might add that at some point in time…

The game is being made so that players will be able to play it at their own pace, like the Switch game, so please look forward to it.”

The town of Sunshade in Conquerors of the Continent:

How do you acquire weapons? Is it a gacha? What sorts of weapons are there, and how many can you equip?

A: “Weapons and armor aren’t obtained via gacha. You explore and battle, obtain materials, and get the weapons by making them at the blacksmith’s. Of course, you can also obtain them via chests and Path Actions.

In this game, the protagonist’s job class is predetermined, and there are eight weapons you can use: Swords, Daggers, Axes, Polearms, Bows, Fans, Books, and Staves.

We weren’t sure what the animation for attacking enemies with the Book and Fan should be like, but we discussed it with the spriter and applied the changes to the attack animations.”

Are you able to play the game offline? Can you play the game on iOS and Android tablets?

A: “In order to protect everyone’s data, and make sure everyone’s playing the latest version, an internet connection is required. However, in order to keep the comfortable gameplay that is characteristic of a singleplayer game, we have made it so that you can progress onwards in the game until important points in the game. Please do not worry.

Furthermore, regarding device compatibility, you are able to play it on a tablet as well. We have someone on our team playing on the iPad Pro’s 12.9 inch display, and the beautiful HD-2D graphics are still presented perfectly.”
