Square Enix made the Octopath Traveler team into a proper Business Division after the success of the Switch RPG. Producers Tomoya Asano and Masashi Takahashi shared more on ambitions for 2019 in Famitsu’s year-end talk with 119 developers.
Square Enix Business Division 11 executive Tomoya Asano and Octopath and Octopath Traveler producer Masashi Takahashi have worked together since the first Bravely Default. The two shared a bit on what they’ve been up to along with ambitions for 2019. Asano previously mentioned that they were working on Switch titles, but that it didn’t mean they were only working on Switch games.

Keyword for 2019: Retrospect and preparation
Masashi Takahashi: “We received support from so many people in 2018, and we were able to release a brand-new title, Octopath Traveler. I’ll keep working on console games in 2019, too! First, we’ll properly reflect on ourselves before heading into the next season of preparations. I’ll do my utmost best to make games you can look forward to— from the Octopath series, the Bravely series, a new series, and more.
Octopath Traveler is available on the Nintendo Switch. A new Bravely game was seemingly teased back in August and the series’ official Twitter account is still “ブレイブリー◯◯◯◯◯” (Bravely ____) , so we’ll be keeping an eye out for further updates.
