With Tori no Hoshi: Aerial Planet on the horizon it looks like Nippon Ichi is finally moving away from the PlayStation 2. In their next fiscal year (April 2008 – March 2009) their focus is the PSP, PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo DS. Five titles for the Japanese market are currently in development: a puzzle game, role playing game, simulation RPG (SRPG), adventure game and simulation / management title are in development in response to the broad demographic appeal of Nintendo’s handheld. While it seems like Puchi Puchi Virus is one of these titles, it probably isn’t since this news is regarding titles Nippon Ichi plans to release for Japan. Jaleco published Puchi Puchi Virus there and NIS America is localizing it for North America. This is probably an opportune time to mention the exact release date of Puchi Puchi Virus too, May 20th.
For the PlayStation family Nippon Ichi is working on more simulation RPGs, adventure games and a new genre. Perhaps, these will be extensions of familiar franchises like Disgaea, Hayarikami and Makai Wars. Interestingly, Nippon Ichi has yet to announce any Xbox 360 titles despite becoming an official developer for the platform.
