Nintendo Will Reveal the Switch Successor by March 2025

Nintendo’s Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that the company will reveal a new console that acts as the successor to Nintendo Switch within “this fiscal year.” The company’s president made the announcement during the fiscal year that started in April 2024, therefore it is expected to stage the actual reveal by the end of the fiscal year in March 2025.

The new console reveal will not be held soon after Furukawa’s announcement, though. In the same tweet made on Nintendo’s official corporate X account, the president also confirmed that the company will hold a new Nintendo Direct in June 2024. However, this program will not feature the new successor console. Nintendo will only showcase new games that will appear on the Switch in the latter half of 2024 during the June Direct.

Furukawa added that nine years have passed since Nintendo formally acknowledged the presence of Nintendo Switch in March 2015. The console was previously only known by its codename “NX.” After confirming “Switch” as the console’s formal name, Nintendo released it worldwide in March 2017.

Shuntaro Furukawa posted the announcement tweets in both Japanese and English. The tweets are also available to view right below:
