Nintendo of America announced that as of June 10, 2024, you will no longer be able to post to X (Twitter) or send friend requests to social media users from the Friend Suggestions feature on the Switch. While Nintendo will still support Facebook, there is a chance that it will remove this in the future as well.
This also came up on the official Nintendo website. As mentioned earlier, this will only affect X (Twitter). You will no longer be able to post screenshots and videos from the Album. This will also affect things like Smash World for Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Splatoon 3. Nintendo will also remove the ability to send friend requests to people you know via social media. However, this is only on the Switch. You’ll still be able to do so on smart devices, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U.
It’s unclear why Nintendo of America will be removing this feature. Some note that it likely has to do with how the price of API access is more expensive compared to in the past. Back in 2023, Sony removed X (Twitter) integration on the PS4 and the PS5. When Elon Musk introduced the price hike in 2023, companies would need to pay $42,000 a month at minimum in order to have X (Twitter) API integration.
The Nintendo Switch will no longer support sending photos or videos from the Album to X (Twitter) on June 10, 2024.
