Nintendo Wi-Fi is the main infrastructure for online matchmaking, leaderboards, and Dragon Quest IX’s online shop. This will effect all games including popular titles such as the Pokémon games on DS and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Wii users will still be able to use Hulu, YouTube, the Internet channel, Catering channel (a food delivery service only in Japan), and the Wii Shopping Channel. The DSi Shop and DS browser software will continue to work too.

Siliconera reached out to Nintendo of America to clarify if the closure will happen in North America as well.

Update : Nintendo confirmed this is a global closure. Here’s a list of Nintendo of America published games that will not work over Nintendo Wi-Fi. This is not a complete list of affected titles, just the one’s Nintendo published.
