Nintendo have released a new app for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan, titled Badge Grab Center, which allows you to customize your device’s home menu. Hold it—don’t get too excited just yet. There’s a catch.

Badge Grab Center works like one of those crane games that you see at arcade centers. The app itself is free to download, but for every five turns, you’ll need to pay 90 yen. (Although, the first five tries are free.) You use the crane to grab badges, and once you do, they can be placed on your Home Menu to customize it.

This part of the application is actually very cool. You can see in the video above how the app allows you to customize your Home Menu to give it a different look. Nintendo plan on adding new badges to the application every week. Once you’ve given your Home Menu a makeover, you can take a screenshot and share it via Miiverse.

Nintendo have no announced Badge Grab Center for Western release yet, but given that the company’s other experimental eShop apps like Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball and Steel Diver: Sub Wars have made it over, this has a pretty good chance.
