Ninety-Nine Nights was missing a key element that made the Dynasty Warriors games fun — co-op play. Feelplus addressed this while developing Ninety-Nine Nights II.
Well, sort of. Ninety-Nine Nights II has a co-op play, but only online co-op play. The game’s product page says “offline players: 1” and “online cooperative play”. It’s better than the alternative, nothing, but action games like Ninety-Nine Nights and Sengoku Basara are always more fun when playing with a friend that you can talk to… without a headset.
The product page also mentions an online ranking system, which hasn’t been detailed yet.
