It’s President’s Day so Nier is taking a break from finding a cure for his daughter to explore two of his hobbies, fishing and gardening. Both of these are actual mini-games in Nier.
Fishing is a skill Nier has to learn. After he gets fishing equipment he can pull twenty things out of the water. Not all of them are fish, some are junk. Nier’s fishing skill can level up enabling him to catch bigger, potentially more valuable fish, which can be sold for money. At least one of the game’s quest requires Nier to catch a shark.
Gardening (or “cultivating” as the game calls it) has Nier tend to a garden just outside of his home. Nier can obtain seeds by slaying Shades and purchasing them from stores. These can grow into flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Plants will die if you don’t take care of them so while you’re chopping limbs off Shades remember to come home and water them. Some quests require Nier to deliver flowers or food, which you can plant or purchase.
Most of the screenshots show Nier walking alone, but he has other modes of transportation. On his journey, Nier will get access to a boat and through an early side quest learn to ride a boar. While riding a boar, Nier can crash into Shades.
