Square Enix previously announced the plastic model kits in October 2020. Pre-orders were available for a limited period of time, with shipments arriving in May 2021. Both versions of the model kits come with a respective character. The Type-B plastic model kit comes with 2B, whereas the Type-S model kit will come with 9S.

Consumers can create their own NieR: Automata Flight Unit HO229 Type-B or Type-S using the model kit as it will not come pre-assembled. Additionally, while sales for the model kits have re-opened through the Japanese Square Enix storefront, the European Square Enix storefront has listed the model kits as in stock. However, this may vary by region.

NieR: Automata is immediately available for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. NieR: Automata first released for the PlayStation 4 in Japan in February 2017, followed by its Western and PC releases in March 2017.
