Developer Nihon Falcom set its target for the next Ys game release date: September 30, 2023. The info was released in the company’s latest earnings report for the fiscal year 2022. The game will release on the PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch [Thanks, Gematsu!].
Though Nihon Falcom revealed it as early as June 2022, it has not yet revealed the title of the next new Ys game. So far, only some concept art is available for it. It should also be noted that September 30th is the end of the company’s fiscal year. With that in mind, the stated target release date for September 30, 2023 could be more of a placeholder. The latest earnings report does confirm the game’s target platforms, which weren’t specified in June.
Whatever its name ends up being, the next Ys release will be the 10th numbered entry in the series. According to Nihon Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo, the team is “reexamining” the gameplay and seeking to incorporate new ideas. These include elements that enable players to observe and adapt to enemy patterns in a one-on-one fashion that’s reminiscent of “Souls-like” games. Other hints include Adol’s status. He will reportedly be the same age he was in Ys I & II.Â
The next new Ys game is currently scheduled for release by September 30, 2023, on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch in Japan. International release plans have not yet been detailed. Ys IX: Monstrum Nox will receive a PS5 edition in Spring 2023.
