It appears that Sega is going to announce a new Yakuza series game at TGS 2020 Online on September 27, 2020. The info comes from a now-deleted tweet by Sega Nama host Ayana Tsubaki. [Thanks, Gamestalk.]
Update: Ayana Tsubaki has denied that a new Yakuza game announcement is coming. [Thanks, @Nibellion.]
Here’s what the deleted tweet from Ayana Tsubaki said:
“A new Yakuza series title will finally be announced in the SegaNama during the Sega Atlus broadcast the day after tomorrow, so don’t miss it.
It is like a dream to be there!!”
Looking at the Sega Atlus TGS 2020 Online schedule, we’ve known that a Sega Nama live stream was scheduled for September 27, 2020, starting at 8:00 pm JST. However, on the official website, it states that the Sega Nama TGS Special will deliver the “latest information concerning the Yakuza series.”
With the previous information alone, we could have assumed that it meant talk about the new live-action Yakuza movie that was announced yesterday. However, with the deleted tweet from the Sega Nama co-host Ayana Tsubaki, it appears more likely that we’ll get some kind of new Yakuza game or spinoff announcement during the broadcast.
The latest game from the series is its eighth main entry, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which featured an RPG battle system, unlike the previous entries. Perhaps this time we might get a new Yakuza game that goes back to the beat ’em up battles for PS5?
