Enterbrain’s numbers for New Super Mario Bros. Wii are out, and estimate the game sold 936,734 copies in its first four days in the Japanese market. This puts it above the previous opening week record for Wii, which was held by Super Smash Bros. Brawl at 816,198 copies.

Other first-week Mario numbers, for the sake of comparison:

New Super Mario Bros. (DS) – 865,024

Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) – 256,341

Super Mario 64 (DS) – 120,062

Mario Kart DS (DS) – 224,411

Mario Kart Wii (Wii) – 608,147

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story (DS) – 220,055

It’ll be interesting to see how New Super Mario Bros. Wii compares to the DS game going forward, since it isn’t on a portable system where several members within the same family might buy individual copies for themselves.
