The brief clip from the film, titled “Smash”, reveals more of the fight between Mario and Donkey Kong seen during the film’s second trailer. During the fight, and after a pummeling by Donkey Kong, Mario makes his way up to some floating blocks, accessing a Question Block. He gains the power and agility of the Cat Suit, becoming Cat Mario. This amuses Donkey Kong, who is voiced in English by Seth Rogen. The newĀ Super Mario Bros.Ā movie trailer is also one of the first public instances of hearing Rogen’s voice as Donkey Kong since the movie’s reveal.

Cat Mario was first introduced in 2013’sĀ Super Mario 3D WorldĀ on the Nintendo Wii U. They’re accessed in-game by obtaining a Super Bell power-up. When dressed in the suit, Cat Mario can climb up walls, cling to vertical surfaces, and claw enemies in a dive attack. He also runs lower to the ground and sprints much more easily. Other playable characters inĀ Super Mario 3D World can don the Cat Suit, with similar results. Their suits are of a different coloration, though.

TheĀ Super Mario Bros.Ā movie premieres in North America on April 7, 2023 and in Japan on April 28, 2023.Ā Super Mario 3D WorldĀ is available on the Wii U, and on the Nintendo Switch (asĀ Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury).
