Mobile game developer Hive has announced that it is creating a new Shining Force mobile game, as part of its recent deal with SEGA. The deal allows Hive to use the Shining Force license to develop video games. It also gives Hive the right to distribute services globally in both Asia and the West. The upcoming Shining Force mobile game is planned to launch in the first half of 2022. [Thanks, Gamer!]
The game is tentatively titled Shining Force: Hero of Light and Darkness and will be a simulation RPG similar to past Shining titles. Additionally, the game will reportedly utilize the series’ unique worldbuilding, story, and characters. It will focus on the player’s ability to level up and grow characters. It will be free to play with some microtransaction elements.
Hive states that the game is currently in development and will likely launch globally in the first half of 2022 after beta testing. According to a spokesperson at the company, the team hopes to create a game that will appeal to both existing fans of the franchise and players who are new to the Shining Force series.
The original Shining Force released on the Sega Genesis in 1992. However, the Shining franchise also includes more recent games such as Blade Arcus Rebellion from Shining and Shining Resonance.
Hive is the Japanese branch of the Korean mobile game company Vespa, the creators behind the mobile RPG King’s Raid. The company has also expanded into animation and webtoons, most recently announcing a King’s Raid anime adaptation back in 2020.
