The first wave of Mega Man 9 downloadable content comes out today on WiiWare. Xbox 360 owners can get Proto Man tomorrow, October 7. Finally, on Thursday October 9 Mega Man’s “brother” makes his way to the PlayStation 3. Proto Man doesn’t have own storyline, but Capcom gave him plenty of Mega Man’s moves to make him awesome. Proto Man can slide, charge his arm cannon, and deflect bullets with his shield.
The downside is Proto Man takes double damage if he gets hit and gets knocked back twice as far as Mega Man. Proto Man doesn’t have Rush to help him out either. A generic spring replaces Rush Coil and he gets a jet sled that looks strikingly similar to Item-2 from Mega Man 2 instead of Rush Jet. Something else appears to be absent on the stage select screen, the house icon to visit Auto’s store is missing! Proto Man may need to enter Wily’s castle without stocking up on energy tanks.
Due to the differences in moves Proto Man can’t be used to on the online leaderboards and he won’t be able to complete any of the challenges. Proto Man costs 200 Wii Points or $2 real dollars.
Also out today/this week is the Endless Attack test, a never ending stage where players compete to clear the most distance on the leaderboards. Endless Attack will set you back 300 Wii Points ($3).
