Square Enix shared more information about Bravely Default II, including a more detailed look at the jobs, characters, and combat system in the upcoming RPG. Consumers were already given a taste of these systems with the March 2020 demo; however, this breakdown includes a more in-depth look at what Bravely Default II will have to offer. [Thanks, Famitsu and 4Gamer!]
The combat system in Bravely Default II will be similar to previous entries in the series, with turn-based battles and abilities centered around the jobs players assign each character. The Brave and Default system in Bravely Default II will allow players to swap between defensive and offensive play, with the Brave command using BP, or Brave Points, to allow players to perform up to four attacks. The Default command can be used to guard and gain BP.
The job system will return in Bravely Default II, and players will be able to assign characters a “main” and “sub” job. By carefully selecting and combining the abilities of both jobs, players can fashion characters to their choosing. This means the possibilities are endless, and you will be able to choose to create more offensive, defensive, or even support playstyles for the individual characters in your party.
Players will be able to acquire new jobs in Bravely Default II by defeating Asterisk Holders. For example, if players would like to obtain the Thief job, they will need to defeat the Thief job Asterisk Holder to acquire it. Additionally, the skills you learn in one job can be combined freely with any job. The jobs that have been recently revealed are the Freelancer, Vanguard, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, and Thief. Each job has its own specialty. For example, the Vanguard will be able to draw the attention of enemies and take hits for other team members.
As mentioned previously, more information about the characters of Bravely Default II has been revealed.
