A new trailer for a game from Fumito Ueda, creator of Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, and The Last Guardian, appeared at The Game Awards 2024. The untitled game was showcased with an initial trailer that showed real-time gameplay.
The short trailer was light on details, but the new title appears to be different from previous Fumito Ueda games. Eschewing the unique fantasy worlds of each of the previous titles, this new game instead veers into science fiction. We see a character in a mechanical suit that is scaling a massive humanoid machine to escape from a massive shockwave on the horizon.
You can take a look at the trailer on The Game Awards’ official social media account:
The development studio is gen Design, the studio that Fumito Ueda founded in 2014. Epic Games has a hand in the production as well, as it will be the publisher. As for how it may tie in to Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian or Ico, three games which feature callbacks to one another, it is impossible to say if there will be any connection. The only seeming similarity is in the design of the massive robot, which resembles the towering form of Malus, the final Colossus from Shadow of the Colossus, and the markings on the cloak the player character is wearing, which bear similarities to a number of markings found in other Fumito Ueda games.
Other big reveals from the 2024 Game Awards include a Co-Op standalone Elden Ring spinoff and an all new Witcher game.
Four years ago, gen Design announced that the company would working on a new title with the help of Epic Games. Now it revealed a little bit of what they have been working on. As of now there are no details as to when the game will be released or what systems it will be for.
