Little is known publicly about the plot or premise of the film, but Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama is handling the screenplay and character design. Work on the film began while Dragon Ball Super: Broly was in production. According to a report in ANN, Super Hero will focus on the titular “superhero” aspect of the series, as well as try to tell a “large scale story”.

The movie’s first trailer also debuted at the New York Comic Con event in October 2021. It showcases a new art style that employs CGI while retaining a traditional animated look.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is in development and will premiere in 2022 in Japan. International release dates are unconfirmed.
