Soon, we’ll be living in a world that might not offer Netflix on any Nintendo system. Nintendo Support confirmed that the Netflix 3DS and Wii U apps will no longer function after June 30, 2021. [Thanks, Nintendo Life!]
If someone hasn’t already downloaded either app, then it is now impossible to acquire them. The eShop product listings for both were removed. If you did download it in the past though, you can still access them from your download lists to acquire them again.
This comes about two years after Netflix support was removed for the Nintendo Wii. Its discontinuation was a part of all video stream support ending on the system in January 2019.
Both of these Netflix apps offered features unique to the systems. For example, the 3DS version had 3D elements, while the Wii U version would let you watch the video on the Gamepad or TV.
The Netflix 3DS and Wii U apps are no longer available to download via the eShops, though the browser-based listings are still online. People who do have access to the apps and active subscriptions won’t be able to use them after June 30, 2021. There is no Netflix Switch app yet, but the latest console does have Funimation and Hulu apps available.
