Each year, Final Fantasy XIV Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida shares a New Year’s message that also discusses things to come in the MMORPG, and the 2025 one is live and talks about the post FFXIV Dawntrail patch 7.2. Both it and 7.3 are teased for this year, and there’s also art of him with the Great Serpent of Ronka and a poem. The Great Serpent of Ronka appears since 2025 is the year of the snake.
Yoshida began by bringing up that 2025 marks his fifteenth year of working on FFXIV. As part of that, he noted, “We naturally tend to value anniversaries in fives, like the fifth or the tenth, but now half of my career as a game developer has been happily devoted to Final Fantasy XIV.” He also mentioned that the Community team for the MMORPG at Square Enix is working on the next Fan Fest following the one in Korea between October 12-13, 2024.
As for new content for Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida talked quite a bit about the FFXIV Dawntrail 7.2 and 7.3 patches. He first confirmed we’ll see both appear in 2025. He teased “twists” and foreshadowing in them. This could be a hint that we’ll see where things might go in the next expansion later this year. He also more specifically said, “The Development team is deep into work on Patch 7.2, and in February I’ll start my own checks on implementation. Our jam-packed schedule is set to bring you a jam-packed patch, so look forward to loads of new content. Kicking off with the release of Patch 7.2, we hope to bring you a year full of fun and surprises, both in game and out.”
The poem shared for the year is:
“Never Stop. Never turn back.
He who stops will ne’er endure.
He who turns will ne’er be more.”
Finally, here’s the 2025 Final Fantasy XIV New Year’s art that shows a character who looks like Naoki Yoshida, the Great Serpent of Ronka, the FFXIV Dawntrail Pictomancer Krile, and other mascots like a Moogle and Chocobo riding on the snake.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, as is the Dawntrail expansion.
