The Nintendo 3DS is getting another mystery visual novel. Arc System Works have more to offer in the genre with Ghost Detective: Shida’s Ayakashi Case Book for Nintendo eShop. (Or, as it is called in Japan, “Mononoke Detective”.)
The above is a look at the game’s first trailer, where you’ll play as the detective Shida Mori, who will be investigating ayakashi (a collective name for yokai that appear above water) cases with his partner and fiancée Shiho Kitakitani. The two are accompanied by Shida’s assistant, a charismatic cat named Shiro, who has shapeshifting abilities.
The game is set in the Taisho era at the capital of flowers, where mysterious incidents have been ongoing. Shida has inherited the title of “Ghost Detective” from his grandfather.
Similar to most games that involve detective work, you’ll be solving cases by talking to numerous characters and collecting items as evidence, which can be found using the 3DS touchscreen.
Your goal is to seal the “Mononoke,” but in order to do so, you’ll need to find its “true name”. Doing so won’t be an easy task, as you’ll be required to find clues that will lead to the kanji spelling of its name, which you’ll get from clues scattered across the game.
Ghost Detective: Shida’s Ayakashi Case Book will be released on March 26, 2014 through the Nintendo eShop for 3DS for 800 yen.
