Warner Bros. released a new trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. It depicts multiple characters set to appear in the film and gives a glimpse into some of the conflicts that will play out in the story.
In the trailer, characters discuss the appearance of dragon marks and postulate that it is a sign that a person has been chosen. They also discuss a tournament that has been mentioned by multiple cultures throughout the world’s history. This tournament is, as you might expect, the Mortal Kombat tournament. The trailer may contain a few spoilers for those who are looking to go into the film unaware of any differences between the story from the games and the story from the new movie.
One such difference involves an altercation between Jax Briggs and Sub-Zero. It offers a different explanation for a major character trait Jax has. A separate video uploaded alongside the Mortal Kombat movie trailer, featured Director Simon McQuoid discussing the decision process behind multiple scenes. The scene with Jax is addressed early on in the video with McQuoid.
The film is set to star Lewis Tan as an original character named Cole Young who will come together with iconic characters from the series to defend Earthrealm from Shang Tsung and enemies from the Outworld. Multiple animated posters revealed other members of the cast too.
Mortal Kombat will open in theaters and stream on HBO Max on April 16, 2021.
