At Summer Games Fest 2023, NetherRealm Studios gave us a preview of Mortal Kombat 1 by debuting its first gameplay footage. The extended trailer showed off MK1’s re-imagined cast of characters engaged in brutal combat and teased the soft reboot’s storyline.
The Mortal Kombat 1 trailer featured the game’s new Kameo fighter mechanic, which allows players to summon a separate cast of fighters to help out during battle. We also got a tease of the MK1’s roster with returning characters Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, Kitana, and Mileena showing off their new brutal fatalities.
Here’s the tweet that revealed the new Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay.
Do not mistake serenity for weakness. Chaos will be snuffed out with unrelenting force. #MK1

As a reminder, characters will now take on new roles in this entry. For example, Scorpion and Sub-Zero will now be brothers instead of rivals. The twelfth installment in the franchise will be the debut of the New Era timeline, which was previously introduced in MK11 in 2019.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to launch on September 19, 2023, and will serve as a soft reboot for the series.
