NetherRealm Studios revealed a new Mortal Kombat 1 character trailer at gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live titled Rulers of Outworld, and it revealed Sindel and Shao Kahn as two new fighters. In the new universe created after Mortal Kombat 12, Sindel is an ally of Fire God Liu Kang. Shao Kahn is a war hero from outworld harboring great ambition.
In this new trailer, Shao Kahn and Sindel are seen to have differing views on Liu Kang and his human champion Raiden.

The latest Mortal Kombat 1 character trailer appeared earlier in August 2023 and it revealed the return of Reptile and Ashrah. The Lin Kuei faction received another trailer in July 2023 that focused on Smoke and Rain, as well as Sub-Zero and Scorpion.
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19, 2023 on the PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC. People who get the Kollector’s Edition get early access on September 14, 2023.
