Capcom revealed Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin for Switch during the September Nintendo Direct Mini. The follow-up title to the 3DS RPG, Monster Hunter Stories, will release in Summer 2021.
Check out the reveal trailer below:
The first Monster Hunter Stories released for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan in October 2016, followed by a Western release in September 2017. Unlike the main Monster Hunter games, Monster Hunter Stories is an RPG with a turn-based combat system. And instead of a Hunter, players take on the role of a “Rider” who fights alongside monsters.
Rather than hunting, the game focuses more on hatching eggs and befriending monsters, and we can expect to see that carry over to the next game. The trailer gives us a peek into its story, where Rathalos are disappearing from their natural habitat and there appears to be a big mystery behind it. We also get to see the Monster Hunter Stories debut of the Brute Wyvern Anjanath from Monster Hunter: World.
Lastly, Capcom announced that there will be some kind of compatibility between Monster Hunter Stories 2 and Monster Hunter Rise on Switch, but more details on that will be announced on a later date.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will release for the Nintendo Switch in Summer 2021. The first Monster Hunter Stories is currently available for the Nintendo 3DS.
