Capcom confirmed that the Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak expansion for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X will launch on April 28, 2023. The expansion is already available for the PC and Nintendo Switch.
Sunbreak follows the PlayStation and Xbox release of the Monster Hunter Rise base game, which happened on January 20, 2023. The expansion opens up Elgado, a new territory to explore and hunt in, as well as unlocking new and returning monsters for players to tackle. New NPCs will also hand out quests and expand the story. It’ll include all the content up to update version 1.3. This means players will have immediate access to monsters like Chaotic Gore Magala.
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak for PlayStation and Xbox will also expand the actions available for players’ weapons, deepening their arsenal of techniques and strategies. Once installed, the expansion enables the collection of “Layered Weapons“, which change the appearance of an equipped weapon without altering its properties.
Capcom plans a new Sunbreak-oriented showcase in April 2023, to share info about Title Update 5.
There are also some bonuses planned for players who want to pay a bit more or pre-order the game. The digital deluxe edition will unlock some layered armor for players, Palamutes, and Palicos, as well as gestures, poses, makeup and hair. Pre-orders will also unlock additional looks for the Palamute and Palico.
Additionally, existing Monster Hunter Rise players will receive free Defender Weapons, Black Belt Armor, and a Veteran’s Talisman via a DLC pack dated for March 10, 2023. Defender weapons are meant for beginning players and have very high stats, intended to shortcut players’ initial journey through the base game and accelerate their progress to higher-rank content.
The Sunbreak expansion launches on April 28, 2023 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and the base Monster Hunter Rise game is readily available on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and PC.
