Whenever Capcom releases a new Monster Hunter game or expansion, there’s typically a new flagship monster too. With Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, that character is Malzeno. While past events offered peeks at the creature, new art shows how it came to be. Yoshitake Suzuki, this installment’s new director, took to Twitter to show off concept art for the creature.
As both the concept and final designs show, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak‘s Malzeno is an Elder Dragon. One image even features the pose seen in the announcements. In it, Malzeno is sitting with wings outstretched.
Hello everyone! Today, I've brought you some concept illustrations for our flagship monster, Malzeno.
We started with a general concept, and narrowed down the direction little by little! Note that his final design looks quite different.– Suzuki, #Sunbreak Director pic.twitter.com/mnbH7Zq3in

Malzeno isn’t the only Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak monster Capcom revealed. Shogun Ceanataur will be back too. It debuted in the Japan-exclusive Monster Hunter 2. But since then, it showed up in games like Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and Monster Hunter Generations.
Monster Hunter Rise is available for the Nintendo Switch. The PC version will be available on January 12, 2022. Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak will release in Summer 2022.
