Capcom published a new trailer for Monster Hunter Riders that shows the new collaboration content. Players will be able to fight and befriend several Dragon Quest monsters like Slime and Great Sabrecat. The original characters from Riders‘ storyline will also appear with attire based on legacy Dragon Quest characters.

Likewise, Square Enix also put up a trailer where Dragon Quest of the Stars will add monsters from the Monster Hunter series. Players of the Dragon Quest mobile RPG will be able to fight against Rathalos, Barioth, Zinogre, Tigrex, and Deviljho.

Capcom and Square Enix will reveal more details on the collaboration at a joint live stream set to air on January 14, 2021, at 20:00 JST (6 AM ET). The producers of both mobile games will deliver more information on each game.

While this marks the first-ever collaboration between the two massive Japanese franchises, Monster Hunter has previously collaborated with other Square Enix franchises. Monster Hunter: World traded Rathalos with Final Fantasy XIV‘s Behemoth, while the now-defunct online game Monster Hunter Frontier added content from NieR: Automata.

Dragon Quest of the Stars and Monster Hunter Riders are available on Android and iOS mobile devices in Japan. The mobile games have been downloaded over 20 million and 6 million times, respectively. Although Dragon Quest of the Stars also has a global version, Monster Hunter Riders is still only available in Japan as of this writing.
