Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Kaname Fujioka recently showed off the new and improved Old Desert map, and in the third installment of their ongoing Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate video series about new additions, they give us a closer look at some new weapon features in action.
Tsujimoto starts out by saying that the Charge Blade probably saw the biggest changes in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which they promptly demonstrate in the video. Fujioka shows off the basics, where you charge up energy using Sword mode to stock it in the bottles, then unleash it through a powerful Axe mode attack.
In Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, you can go into the Elemental Burst in Axe mode, then cancel it while going back into Sword mode to transfer energy to the shield. When this happens, you can notice your shield going red, along with a red shield icon on the top-right.
This is called the Elemental Enhancement Status, which will allow you to do even more damage with certain attacks afterwards. Think of it as a double-charged power up that can deal some devastating damage.
While in Elemental Enhancement Status, your Axe mode attacks will also be powered up, so this adds a whole new dimension to how Charge Blade players will fight against tough monsters.
One of the Charge Blade’s powerful attacks that was previously only available for use while in Axe mode, can now be used during Sword mode after a shield bash, which Fujioka demonstrates at 3:40.
Next, they give us another look at the return of the Daimyo Hermitaur, and it still has a lot of its same moves. Tsujimoto says that the monster is more of a comical one, based on the way it moves around. You can also see the Felyne calling for a jump attack at around the 5:03 mark.
According to Fujioka, the Felynes often give the signal for a jump attack when it looks like the moment is right, but you’ll also have to time and aim it right on your part. You can also read more about the Felyne jump attacks in our earlier report.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is slated for release in Japan on October 11, 2014, and in the West in early 2015 for Nintendo 3DS.
