Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has become the first Monster Hunter game to reach a shipment of 1 million copies in North America and Europe, Capcom have announced. The game was released on February 13th in both territories.

Capcom attribute Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate’s success in part to the promotional activities they’ve carried out for the game, including the free demo version, free DLC launches, real-life events in both North America and Europe, and so on.

Of course, it also helps that a considerable amount of effort went into building an audience for Monster Hunter on the Nintendo 3DS, starting with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate’s release. There’s also the fact that 4 Ultimate is the first time that a portable game in the series has included an online multiplayer mode.
