Pac-Man, perhaps one of the most historically important (and still currently active-slash-rad) mascots in video game history, celebrated his 40th birthday on May 22, 2020. We’ve already reported on one fancy treat from Bandai Namco, and here’s another one from Mojang Studios. A Minecraft Pac-Man DLC pack has been released, which adds a whole structure of Pac-Man action via Minecraft, with ten levels, score rankings, and even a custom maze-building component. It’s in the Minecraft marketplace, and it’s available for 1,340 Minecoins. Coins are available at various denominations, with 1,720 coins available at retail for $9.99.
As you can see in the above release trailer, this DLC (created by Minecraft Marketplace’s Gamemode One), is a pretty thorough adaptation of the Pac-Man spirit, albeit just as far removed from actual Pac-Man. That said, you’re running from ghosts, collecting pellets, and scoring points, so it’s sporting full functionality. There’s even bonus stuff happening here, with new power-ups, multiple character variants, and what looks like a Pac-Man city you can explore.
Minecraft is available for basically any current gaming platform, although the Minecraft Marketplace isn’t available in the PlayStation and older Nintendo versions. Minecoins are redeemable for the Xbox One, Windows 10, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, and VR versions.
