Today’s the day the Miitomo and Splatoon crossover kicks off. People will be able to get special avatar items from now until May 29, 2016. It all begins the moment you log in to Miitomo, as the Twitter campaign has earned all players one orange Inkling girl and blue Inkling boy wig.
All other Splatoon items must be bought or won. The Squid Pins, available for 880 coins each, are in the in-game shop. There are six different color options available. The Inkling girl and Inkling boy items are only available in Miitomo Drop for 500 coins per try. The six different colored ink tanks are at My Nintendo right now for 150 Platinum Coins each. To compare, the full Mario My Nintendo suit for Miitomo is 250 Platinum Coins. The Inkling boy and girl outfits are only available via two Miitomo Drop catchers, with each costing 500 coins or one ticket per try.
For the two Miitomo Drops, I’ve found the Inkling girl catcher to be easier to time. If you allow the Mii you’re dropping to fall horizontally on the right side of the squid platform at the top of the screen, it’ll gradually slide down the platforms to a clothing item. From there, it’s all about timing. I haven’t personally earned the gym shoes or shorts yet, but I have acquired two other Inkling girl wigs and both color options for the shirt.
Unfortunately, I have no advice for Miitomo’s Inkling boy Miitomo Drop. It seems like working out the timing would be critical again, but every time I tried, the Miis kept bouncing off of the squid blocks, overshooting the clothing items, and landing into the candy bins below. (At last count, I have 88 pieces of candy.)
Below are screen-captures of both Splatoon Miitomo Drop runs.
Miitomo is immediately available for Android and Apple iOS devices.
