MiHoYo New AAA, Open World Game Will Be Developed in Montreal

MiHoYo announced it will be opening a studio in Montreal, Canada, with the goal of it working on a new game on LinkedIn. Its already begun opening up job listings for the new location on its official site. People who work there will be working on the new title, rather than existing games like Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact, and Tears of Themis. [Thanks, Daniel “Zhuge EX” Ahmad!]

Additional announcements offered a few extra details. Over 100 people will be hired between now and 2023, according to Montreal International. While the exact site of the studio wasn’t revealed, it will be in downtown Montreal. Both the LinkedIn post and announcement referred to the new miHoYo title as “a brand new AAA open-world action-adventure game featuring shooting-based gameplay within a living, breathing paranormal world.”

As for the miHoYo job listings in Canada possibly pertaining to the new game, its searching for people for the following roles.

  • 3D Environment Artist
  • Audio Programmer
  • Build Tool Programmer (North America)
  • Gameplay Network Programmer
  • Level Artist
  • Senior Audio Designer Combat (Canada)
  • Senior Level Designer
  • Senior Technical Artist (Destruction System)
  • Technical Designer

MiHoYo runs three active games at the moment. One is Honkai Impact 3rd for PCs and mobile devices. Another is Genshin Impact, which is immediately available on the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. Finally, there’s Tears of Themis on mobile devices.
