Now that the product listings are up at GameStop, we know exactly what the Metroid Dread amiibo do. Essentially, they offer both a permanent and temporary bonus. The first time you use each Metroid Dread amiibo, Samus gets a permanent upgrade. However, you can still use both for boosts after. [Thanks, VGC!]
GameStop’s product description went over each figure’s features. The Samus Metroid Dread amiibo immediately gives her health a permanent boost by 100 points. The E.M.M.I. amiibo’s fixed upgrade gives you 10 extra missiles permanently. Then, after that initial unlock, people could scan each amiibo daily to get a health or missile refill.
This is the second recent Nintendo amiibo to offer a noticeable bonus in-game. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Zelda & Loftwing amiibo unlocks a feature when scanned. If people use that, it allows them to immediately teleport either to or from Skyloft, even if they were previously in a dungeon.
In addition to the amiibo details, there’s more news regarding the game. Nintendo shared a bunch of Metroid Dread screenshots on Twitter. They even show off her new sliding move.
Metroid Dread and its amiibo two-pack will debut on October 8, 2021. It is only available for the Nintendo Switch.
