McDonald’s Japan revealed a collaboration with the Evangelion franchise that sees food items from the Value Set menu turn into Eva unit toys. The toys are now available for purchase via lottery system via the McDonald’s Japan app until January 10, 2025.
There are 3 different toys available and the complete set costs 3,900 yen (or about $24.77.) They are inspired by the three main Evangelion Units seen in the original anime series, with Rei Ayanami’s Unit-00 transforming into a plastic cup with the McDonald’s logo, Shinji Ikari’s iconic Unit-01 transforming into a Big Mac, and Asuka Langley Soryu’s Unit-02 transforming into fries.
The company also shared a video showcasing how the toys transform between McDonald’s foot items and Evangelion Units, alongside scenes from the original anime series. You can check out the video here:
The Japanese X (Twitter) McDonald’s account teased the new Evangelion collaboration on December 18, 2024. However, no information about what type of collaboration would be appeared until today. In the past, McDonald’s collaborations have usually involved limited food items or Happy Meal toys, such as the Jujutsu Kaisen special garlic sauce or the Kirby Happy Meal sets.
