Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion is just over a week from its December 13, 2022 launch date, and Square Enix debuted a huge new Zack and Cloud ad in Japan’s Shinjuku Station to push the game. The ad is unique in this case because of its gimmick. It shows a different image depending on which direction a viewer is coming from. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
Taking up the entire wall of the Shinjuku Station Metro Promenade, the Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion ad is 14 meters (about 45 feet) long and divided into two “sides:” the Zack Side and the Cloud Side. The two sides are linked by the Buster Sword wielded by both Final Fantasy VII stars. Travelers walking from one end of the poster to the other will see the image change from Zack to Cloud and vice-versa.
This is because the Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion poster is printed using a technique called “bellows printing.” A single partial image is printed on each of a surface consisting of triangular ridges. When viewers approach from one side, they only see one image. The second image is on the other side of the poster’s ridges, and is hidden from view until they get to the other side of the poster and view it from the opposite angle.
Viewers standing near the ad will also be able to hear Ayaka’s “Why,” the game’s theme song.
