In this week’s Famitsu, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai mentioned that he nearly suffered a major injury due to tiredness recently. While taking a bath during a trip to the gym, Sakurai passed out due to tiredness and dehydration. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089!]
According to Sakurai, he’s actually on a low-carb, meat-based diet, and that the dehydration from taking a bath overlapped with tiredness from the diet, which caused him to pass out.
People who watch Nintendo Directs always comment about how Sakurai seems to age backwards, and from Sakurai’s descriptions of his life in the past, it seems that he plans a busy schedule for himself even outside work. One thing that Sakurai seems to do as part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is regular exercise. Apart from going to the gym, he also exercises on an exercise bike when he’s home (while gaming, of course). That said, this is the first time he has mentioned needing to diet to stay in shape.
While many of Masahiro Sakurai’s Famitsu columns tread on the topic of games that he makes (mainly Super Smash Bros. for obvious reasons), he also uses this to talk about thoughts on game development, games that he’s played recently, and his personal life.
