Capcom have reason to be happy — Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds was the second best-selling game in the U.S. in the month of February, following Call of Duty: Black Ops, which retained its #1 spot. The NPD Group revealed that Black Ops is now the best-selling game in U.S. history, having outsold Wii Play (note that Wii Sports isn’t counted as it came bundled with the Wii system).
Retail sales of console software in February were up 2% over last year. While there were less games released in February 2011 as compared to February 2010, the top 10 games for Feb ’11 outsold the top 10 from Feb ’10 by 6%, owing to to more significant games being released during the month.
Overall, the console segment of the market was up 12% in dollar sales across hardware, software, accessories, and game cards. Meanwhile, portable sales declined by 27%, and the NPD Group point to the Nintendo 3DS to facilitate growth in the portable market, starting next month.
