Mario Kario 8 Deluxe is now the fourth title for Nintendo Switch to reach this milestone, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons at over 6.8 million units, Pokemon Sword and Shield with over 4.3 million in sales, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate nearly at 4.4 million units. This also puts the Nintendo Switch itself at the unique position of being the console with the second-highest number of titles that sold 4 million copies, behind the Nintendo DS’ seven titles.

These sales trends aren’t exclusive to Japan either, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 33.41 million units globally, according to Nintendo’s Consolidated Operating Results report released in February 2021. Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold 33.18 million units worldwide as stated in the same report.

The Nintendo Switch sold 52,488 units this same week in Japan and has sold 16,959,653 in lifetime sales so far. The Nintendo Switch Lite, meanwhile, sold 10,766 units this week and has pulled in a total of 4,030,951 units sold since launch.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available for the Nintendo Switch worldwide.
