Nexon announced a sequel to MapleStory, but MapleStory 2 is trying to differentiate itself from the popular PC game. MapleStory 2 takes place in a different world that MapleStory with new monsters. Nexon says the two games are not connected to each other.

Instead of being a 2D game, MapleStory 2 uses an isometric viewpoint. The game will be a different genre so MapleStory 2 stands on its own. Nexon will continue to support both MapleStory and MapleStory 2.
User testing for MapleStory 2 is planned for mid-2014.
