To promote the upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable PSP title, Bandai Namco will be releasing a free smartphone mini-game Mami’s Heart Thumping Tiro Finale today. The app, a 2D platformer where players take control of magical girl Mami Tomoe, is different from the PSP game. Madoka Portable is a dungeon crawler slash turn-based RPG hybrid.
However, it is tied to the PSP game. You can upload your high scores in Mami’s Heart Thumping Tiro Finale to the game’s official site. A trailer for the app teases that if enough high scores are uploaded, more information about the PSP game could be released unlocked on the site sooner.
So far the only feature Bandai Namco has detailed in the game’s official website is something called "Kyubey button", which allows players to temporarily assume the cuddly mascot’s point of view.
As Kyubey, you get to pick dialogue choices that may seduce or provoke Madoka and her friends into becoming magical girls. Manage the girls’ emotions well and you might power them up in battles. Eventually you can evolve the magical girls into their "matured" forms or you could prevent that from happening altogether. The story branches depending on the timing each individual girl transform into a magical girl and evolve, if they do at all.
Bandai Namco did not specify a particular smartphone platform for Mami’s Heart Thumping Tiro Finale, but chances are if you have an iOS or Android device, you’ll be able to join the fight… for new Madoka Portable info.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable comes out in Japan for the PSP on March 15, 2012.
