Season 2 of the Made in Abyss anime adaptation will air in Japan starting July 2022. Kadokawa announced the upcoming season’s release date alongside a new key visual featuring Riko, Nanachi, and Reg. The official website also added newly released art for some of the characters set to appear in season 2. [Thanks, Natalie!]
The first season of the anime followed an orphan named Riko and a robotic relic named Reg. The second season’s official title is Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun. In addition to the former season’s main characters, the upcoming season will introduce a host of new characters. Some of these characters also appeared in a previous teaser trailer.
The new key visual shows Riko, Reg, and Nanachi as they travel deeper into the titular Abyss. Each character has a somewhat updated look compared to the previous season. Both the new character art page and key visual feature Riko wearing her green coat around her waist, instead of wearing her brown jacket.

Back in January, Cartoon Network added the first season of Made in Abyss to its lineup alongside Assassination Classroom. The first season originally aired in 2017, with two compilation films released two years later in 2019.
Made in Abyss season 2 will debut in July 2022 in Japan. There is no confirmation for an international or English dub release. Made in Abyss season 1 is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video and Adult Swim.
