Made In Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness has a release window. The single-player RPG adaptation of Made In Abyss arrives in Fall 2022, according to an announcement from publisher Spike Chunsoft.
Spike Chunsoft also released a trailer to promote the upcoming release.
The trailer features the game’s English dub, but both Japanese and English text and audio options will be available. The anime voice casts also reprise their roles. The characters are rendered in full 3D, and the gameplay is classified as action-RPG. In contrast to the childlike character designs and colorful art style, the footage also shows scenes of somewhat graphic violence, with blood spills and spatters. The content, which Spike Chunsoft said would “stay true” to the original work, earned Made In Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness a CERO rating of “Z” in Japan. The game has also earned an ESRB rating of “M” in the United States. These are roughly equivalent to a PEGI “18” in the UK and EU.
The story of Made In Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness adapts the manga, and begins with Riko and Reg’s first meeting. This corresponds to the anime series’ first episode, and follows the party as they travel to Seeker Camp on the Abyss’ second layer.
The game does have some original content, though. In an original story supervised by creator Akihito Tsukushi, a nameless Cave Raider begins their own adventure into the Abyss many days after Riko and Reg’s departure.
Made In Abyss: Binary Star Falling Into Darkness releases on PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch in Fall 2022. It is available now in Japan. The anime series adaptation is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video and Adult Swim. Its next season is scheduled for a July 2022 premiere in Japan.
