Warner Bros Japan will release The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim some time in December 2024. Like the Gollum game, this will take place before the main trilogy of movies. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
Studio Sola Entertainment will be the studio in charge of the movie. Kenji Kamiyama will serve as the director. Past works Kamiyama directed include Eden of the East, Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim takes place about 183 years before the movies and follows Helm Hammerhand, who is a king of Rohan. He and his family must defend the country from Dunlendings. As a note, Helm’s Deep, the location of the climatic battle in The Two Towers, was named after him.
New Line Cinema announced the film back in 2021 during the 20th anniversary of the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Phillippa Boyens, who co-wrote the film trilogy, is a consultant and producer for The War of the Rohirrim. She had been the one to insist on setting the film in Rohan, as it would be familiar to fans of the movies.
